Palestinian attackers killed after killing Israeli officer

Flash 90 Israeli security forces at the scene of a terror attack near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem

Major General Yoav Mordechai - head of COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry agency responsible for civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories - said the family visit permits were cancelled in response to "encouragement to terrorism" by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement. Entry permits for prayers in Israel were not revoked, according to a statement by the Israeli military coordinator office. The PLFP is a Marxist-Leninist group that broke away from the Arab Nationalist movement in the late 1960s and was credited with carrying out global attacks, including plane hijackings, and in more recent times, rocket attacks on Israel.

It was the first time that the organization took responsibility for a terror attack inside Israel, a target which the group warned it will "wipe out".

The slain Israeli officer has been identified as Hadas Malka, 23; Israeli daily Haaretz said the officer was stabbed while trying to reach for her gun.

Israel accuses the Palestinian establishment of inciting the violence, including by glorifying attackers and supporting their families.

"Over the weekend, 350 Palestinians who entered Jerusalem illegally were arrested to prevent any more attacks".

"The three hero martyrs who executed the Jerusalem operation have no connection to Daesh, they are affiliated with the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) and Hamas", Hamas' Izzat El-Reshiq wrote on Twitter. Maqdisi is an Arabic term for a Palestinian Jerusalemite.

Qatar's foreign minister is expected to meet Tillerson today, as the deadline for responding to its neighbors' demands draws near. Fawzi, an Egyptian citizen, was released after a few days in prison and fled the country for Qatar before coming to the U.S.

He also said the attack proved the Palestinian Authority's policy of security coordination with Israel was wrong, calling it "a national crime". A reasonable headline should say: "Three armed Palestinian assailants killed after attack on Israeli officers".

The Times of Israel said, though, that "Israeli officials cast doubt on both claims, saying there was no indication of ISIS involvement, and that the attack did not appear to have been directed by any group".

"I am appalled that once again some find it appropriate to justify such attacks as 'heroic.' They are unacceptable and seek to drag everyone into a new cycle of violence", Mladenov said.

Since October 2015, Palestinian assailants have killed 42 Israelis, two visiting Americans and a British student, mainly in stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks.

In 2016, a truck ramming attack that killed four soldiers at a Jerusalem tourist site could have had links to the group, Israeli authorities said, but Islamic State did not claim responsibility.
